Contractor Jakobs (The Netherlands)
Contractor Fa. Jakobs is located in Geijsteren in Limburg, just between Venray and the German border, and has been active in contract work and arable farming for 60 years. The company operates on a variety of soil types, such as sand, loam and heavy river clay, close to the river ‘The Maas’.
Various activities
From the contracting sector, the company is active in livestock farming, arable farming and tree nurseries. Earthworks is a growing branch of sport, with associated transport and container rental. “These activities make for quite a broad package for us, with a wide range of customers,” says Michiel Jakobs. In addition to the contracting company, Jakobs also has an arable branch with, varying per year, between 120 and 160 hectares of arable farming. On the arable farm, conventional crops are often grown.
Michael; “Naturally, all this work requires a wide range of machinery. For sowing grass and fine-seeded crops, we have therefore opted for a Farmax Ringseeder and Kverneland rotary harrow sowing combination.’
As few dragging parts as possible
After years of using a seed drill with seed coulters, we wanted to switch to a machine that is simple to operate, easy to connect and disconnect and creates an even seed bed. In addition, we wanted a seeder that has as few dragging parts as possible in the machine. This allows us to create a nice seedbed with moderate pre-treatment and organic residues.
We have found these wishes in the Farmax Ringseeder in combination with the Kverneland H Series power harrow. We already had experience with the Kverneland platform because we already sow beets, beans and maize with it. This was therefore a fairly obvious choice for us.

Good reconsolidation of the seedbed
‘The Farmax Ringseeder is a solidly built machine with large rings that are connected to each other, this way it is possible to use the Ringseeder in almost any soil type. You can feel the pressing effect on the soil very well when you walk trough the field after sowing, the contact between soil and seed is just super.
What we also particularly like is that this machine requires few cables and hoses to connect the seed drill. The machine is easy to set up via the ISOBUS, because only one screen is required, this makes it much easier.’
We looked for a dealer who took care of Farmax and Kverneland dealership, for this we contacted Kraakman B.V. who supplied us with this sowing combination.
